The legal maker and warrantor that places the product on the market — the entity responsible for it, and the root at which two otherwise-identical products from different makers are told apart. Distinct from brand, which is the marketing mark on the product: a KitchenAid stand mixer carries the brand KitchenAid but is manufactured by Whirlpool Corporation, and a Bosch dishwasher carries the brand Bosch but is manufactured by BSH Hausgeräte GmbH. One manufacturer may own many brands; one brand may be contract-made by several manufacturers.
