bond strength class
also called strength · strength grade
THE REMOVABILITY GRADE THE MAKER DECLARES - low, medium or high. Henkel gives it a field of its own, `Strength`, on the anaerobic range: `Medium` on LOCTITE 243, 577 and 5188, `High` on 271 and 638. The grade is defined by what it takes to undo the joint, and Henkel writes the definition into its own product descriptions - 243 is for fasteners `which require normal disassembly with standard hand tools`, 271 is for `permanent locking`, and its disassembly instruction is to heat the nut to approximately 250 C. Permatex publishes the same three-grade scale on its own threadlockers. IT IS THE MAKER'S OWN PUBLISHED BAND AND NOT A MEASUREMENT, which is stated first because it decides everything else about the slot: Henkel prints the word `Medium` or `High` in a headline field and prints the torque and shear numbers separately, and those numbers - breakaway 22 N.m on M10, compressive shear >7.6 N/mm2 - have no home in the pool at all [H5-f2]. IT IS NOT THE COLOUR AND MUST NOT BE READ OFF IT [A17], and the counter-example is INSIDE ONE HOUSE ON TWO SHEETS READ AT THE MINT: LOCTITE 5188 is red and `Strength Medium` while LOCTITE 271 is red and `Strength High`. Across houses colour is a variation axis in its own right - Sikaflex-221 ships in four colours - so a shelf reading strength off `color` would mis-sell. UNLIKE b155's `heat_range` IT CARRIES NO SCALE QUALIFIER, and the reason is the b156 `friction_grade` reason: the grade is anchored to an absolute functional test - does it come apart with hand tools - and not to a house's private numbering, so two houses' `medium` mean the same thing, where NGK's heat 2 and Bosch's heat 13 did not. The honest caveat is recorded with it: no standard fixes the torque bands, so this is a declared grade and not a measurement, and the measured breakaway torque behind it has no home in the pool today. Concern measurement.
Bond strength class is answered with one word chosen from the bond strength classes list — the same word shared across every product that uses it.
It belongs to measurement — its measurable, physical facts.
