WHICH OF THE TWO TEMPERATURE BANDS a friction grade was measured in — normal or hot. Required on every `friction_grade` statement and not a formality: the SAE J866 edge code is two letters BECAUSE THE TWO ANSWERS DIFFER, and they demonstrably do on real parts. Three pads for one application: Wagner ZD2382 is FF, Bendix SBC2382 is GG, and Bendix CFC2382 Priority One is FG — one grade stronger hot than cold. Store a bare letter without this qualifier and the pool would let a shelf sort a part's cold grade against another's hot grade and return a ranking that is not merely imprecise but meaningless. The shape is b155's `heat_range` / `heat_range_scale` and b154's `viscosity_grade` / `grading_scale`, and it is deliberately the b155 form rather than the b154 one — bare codes plus a required qualifier, never qualifier-prefixed value codes — because H3-f8 ruled the b154 shape stores the same fact twice [A17] and named b155 as the model to reconcile toward. Here it also avoids a seven-by-two value space where seven values and one qualifier will do.
