Published by the makers as a design fact in their own part-number code tables: NGK's design column lists `K 2-ground-electrodes`, `T 3-ground-electrodes`, `Q 4-ground-electrodes` and `J 2-projecting-ground electrodes` against a single-ground default, and Bosch's distinguishes a "Monoelectrode" from a "Binary ground electrode". Denso publishes a whole range under the name Multi-Ground and the K20TR11 is published there as a two-ground-electrode plug. Zero is a real answer, not an absence: Bosch's table lists a "Surface gap spark plug without ground electrode", where the spark runs across the insulator face to the shell. Stored rather than read off the part number [A17], because the letter that carries it sits in a different position in every maker's scheme and is absent altogether from the OEM boxes the trade actually sells (Toyota's 90919-01210, Nissan's 22401 JA01B).
